The event

Kwita Izina is Rwanda's annual gorilla naming ceremony, held at Kinigi in Musanze District, at the foot of the Volcanoes, about two hours by road from Kigali. Each year, the baby gorillas born in the park receive their names.

Many travellers combine it with a few nights in Kigali: arrive, rest at the villa, drive north for the ceremony and come back. The concierge arranges a private driver for the day or a helicopter transfer on request, and the airport pickup at any hour.

Dates

2026: on 4 September. The 2027 edition has no published dates yet (checked in October 2026).
